Our first stop on the “Route de Vins” was the town of Beaune, we had a guided tour of the Hospice de Beaune. This convent-type establishment served the needy as early as 1457 when construction was finished. It was apparently established because the Pope at the time decided that the Région de Bourgogne would be where the church would grow its grapes for wine; hence the regions long history of wine culture.
